(More customer reviews)So here's the deal.I installed this switch for the fan I just installed, lots of work and was excited when it was done and worked.Not being an electrician and all of that.Several days later I would come into the room and lo and behold it would be on.Then I installed a light kit, imagine waking up at midnight and seeing the light come on all by its' lonesome.

I called Hunter, the problem is a common one and really stems from the poorly written instructions and the fact that the symptom is not addressed in the trouble shooting guide.

The switch is a radio frequency device and therefore stray radio signals bouncing around the house, through the hood, etcetera can trigger its operation.This was a common problem in early garage door openers and car alarms, those manufacturers fixed it by having the devices reset a new code after each use.

Your fix, is to remove the switch from the wall, pull the battery then pull the fan down and reset the dip switches in the receiver.I may take more than one try as there is no way you can easily pinpoint what is triggering your switch.The complete instructions on how to do this are in the installation instructions which may also be downloaded from the Hunter website.

Never the less, this thing is not as crappy as the cheaper switches are and actually worked great for my application. It would be great if we never found ourselves in the position to have to read this review, let alone be shopping for this item. Shalom.

(More customer reviews)I had three of these switches installed in my brand new home.Prior to the electrical inspection, one of the slide tabs broke.Since being in the home, I have had to replace two more of these switches as the sliding tabs are too fragile and spaced so closely together it makes it difficult to only select one function.This product is not worth its price unless you intend to be replacing it frequently. Three out of five switches defective within three months time is simply unacceptable!

(More customer reviews)We installed a ceiling fan/light in our master bedroom as part of a remodel and were able to run the required 3-wire romex to work the fan and light separately from the switchbox. After weeks of work, we installed the Hunter switch as the cherry on top. We were ecstatic. It took a while to get used to the slider switches and the master on/off switch for the preset felt a little chintzy, but we were quickly spoiled by the smooth dimmer and 4-speed fan control. Our joy lasted less than a year. The knob on the fan control broke off. I could now see how the knobs were attached to the sliders and it looks like they are designed to fail: a blade in the back of the knob is pressure-fit into a slot in the thin plastic slider. When you screw down the cover plate on a switch, you expect the job to last for years or decades. This switch lasted only a few months. Very disappointing.
